Cicely Anne Rude now teaches in the Gladys L. Benerd School of Education at
the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California. She specializes in
teaching educational linguistics courses designed for undergraduate and graduate
students who are preparing to become K-12 teachers. She strives to prepare
future teachers to effectively evaluate and support the needs of English language
learners in their classrooms.
In addition to working as a public school substitute teacher for two years, her
diverse experiences include teaching English in Japan, teaching adult English
as a second language, and teaching linguistics. She has also taught content-based
English language courses to college exchange students from Japan, and also taught
principles and practices of second language acquisition and bilingual education to
new and veteran teachers in Spain.
As the author of numerous newspaper and academic journal articles on the subject
of education, as well as resource materials for teachers, Ms. Rude has developed
teacher education workshops for numerous organizations including California Teachers
of English to Speakers of Other Languages (CATESOL), the Japan Exchange and Teaching
(JET) Program, and the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco.
